Jeremiah was a Bullfrog!...

Joy to the world that this '49 Chevy truck is in it and runnin' down Thunder Road! Saved from a field with grass so high that he could only see the top to the cab Jeremiah Horsely and his father "spent the better part of a month gettin' this thing up and runnin.'" Jeremiah says "this is MY ART right here."
If you try to pour yourself a glass of shine from the spout on the side or try to tap that keg on the back, you're in for a surprise!
They are both full of false hope, but lots of humor. The faux spout on the side is all dried up and that KEG in the bed is his gas tank.
Yes!... your read that correctly. The bottom of the keg is bolted to the bed and there is a hose running from it to the fuel pump.
It's somewhat disappointing at frat parties, and highly recommended that you don't actually drink it.
Dude! this thing is awesome. Peruse the body for a moment. Do ya SEE the (rubber) foot hanging off the back in an animal snare?!
It looks SOOO REAL!
The interior is in the beginning stages of becoming and homage to Vintage Pin Ups. Bettie Page, I'm sure has a special place in his heart.
The next car show is The Drag Bash at 411 April 23rd-25th.
Jeremiah plans on "gettin' my truck out there." It is guaranteed to be a great time!
There are several videos on www.youtube.com if you search 411 Drag Bash. I couldn't get the link to work, sorry.

If you see him or his truck in the old city don't be afraid to say Hello! This is one "Knoxvill AIN" with his arms wide open.

Eric Sublett is to Knoxville what Flour is to Biscuits!

Blogs are all about opinions so I can say this and say it OUT LOUD! THIS GUY ROCKS! He always has a good word. Eric Sublett is the man to go to for those who want to know the REAL STORY! of Knoxville. The artist's story, and, the evolution of that story in this city. On any given day he can be found achiving the lot of it. It might be his own work which can be viewed at www.ericsublett.com or the work of his very accomplished father Carl Sublett www.carlsublett.net or recording a night at the Long Branch Saloon were his long time comrade R.B.Morris plays frequently. Check out "Science for the People"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISWBOH9H-68. You won't regret it.

I propose that Eric submit his thoughts on the aesthetic of Knoxville. Is there a defined aesthetic to this city? If a stranger were to enter the city, say at the airport, how would he or she know that they were in Knoxville. What visual clues would there be.
How would people be dressed? How would they speak, etc.? What is the culture of Knoxville? Is there one or many? I might have some questions for him soon. Let's see about an interview.

Fresh Start!

I am starting this blog about art and life. Life in Knoxville TN, as an artist.

Let's talk about aesthetic. What is aesthetic? The following definition is according to dictionary.com

aes·thet·ic
[es-thet-ik or, especially Brit., ees-] Show IPA
–adjective
1. pertaining to a sense of the beautiful or to the science of aesthetics.
2. having a sense of the beautiful; characterized by a love of beauty.
3. pertaining to, involving, or concerned with pure emotion and sensation as opposed to pure intellectuality.–noun
4. a philosophical theory or idea of what is aesthetically valid at a given time and place: the clean lines, bare surfaces, and sense of space that bespeak the machine-age aesthetic.
5. aesthetics.
6. Archaic . the study of the nature of

I like number 4 . a philosophical theory or idea of what is aesthetically valid at a given time and place: the clean lines, bare surfaces, and sense of space that bespeak the machine-age aesthetic.

What do you consider to be aesthetically valid in our time and place?

The lines and geometric shapes of the Mid-Century Modern period and the patterns that came out of that, defined the era.
What defines us, as a society, and as a city and as a community?

Where is our community and how are we involved in creating what is around us?

I think I will set out to find my community!

What is the aesthetic of Knoxville? Does one exist?

I will start where I live.

Ground Zero is the Bearden area in Knoxville.

I will start taking pictures of people and places and start defining my community.

Let's see where it leads!
